
How to Write a WordPress Post (The Simple Way)
So you’ve got something to say and want to share it with the world through WordPress. Don’t overthink it—here’s the simplest way to get it done.
Step 1: Log Into WordPress
- Go to

- Enter your username or email.
- Check your email for link to access account.
- Once inside, you’ll see the Admin Dashboard—this is your control center.
Step 2: Start a New Post
- On the left-hand menu, hover over Posts.
- Click Add New.
- You’ll be taken to the post editor.
Step 3: Add Your Title
- At the top, you’ll see a box that says “Add title.”
- Type in your post title here (something short, catchy, and clear).
Example: “My First WordPress Post”
Step 4: Write Your Content
- In the large box under the title, start typing your content.
- You can hit Enter for new paragraphs.
- Want a header? Type your text, highlight it, and choose a heading level (H2, H3, etc.) from the toolbar.
- Want to add bold, italics, or links? Use the formatting buttons above the text.
Step 5: Add Media (Optional)
- Click the + icon in the editor to add images, videos, or lists.
- Upload from your computer or choose from the Media Library.
Step 6: Choose a Category & Tags
- On the right-hand sidebar, you’ll see options for Categories and Tags.
- Categories are the big buckets (like News or Tips).
- Tags are the smaller labels (like WordPress, Beginner).
- These help people (and search engines) find your post.
Step 7: Set a Featured Image
- Still in the right sidebar, look for Featured Image.
- Upload a nice picture that represents your post.
- This image will show up in previews and on your homepage.
Step 8: Save or Publish
- Not ready yet? Hit Save Draft.
- Want to see how it looks? Hit Preview.
- Ready to share it with the world? Hit the big Publish button.
